Need some help here pls. I've got a dish at my place from my previous residence thats just lying around my flat, and I want to know how/where to point the dish in order to get a signal. It's got the dual LNB thingy required for HD and I want to try it myself rather than pay someone a good chunk of cash to go onto the building roof and run another LNB from the current dish. I plan to set it up on my balcony. Which direction/angle does the dish need to be at?
From the others I've seen it looks like north east? Need some help here pls. From the others I've seen it looks like north east? Best best is to look at neighbours dish and point it in the same direction which i think is NE. Then next thing to do is to get LNB in the right alignment. There is normally some information on DSTV website for this, but I just turn the LNB degree by degree until it gets the best signal, and all channels are showing properly.

Then run down either into LNB splitter unit for old HD decoder or straight into decoder for new models. It is pretty easy to do. Hardest part is getting both cables to the area where your decoder will be!! Sorry for the late reply.
The lnb angle determines the polarization of the signal. For the original hdpvr you need to take the cables from the dual lnb on the dish to a multiplex. This splits into 6 normally. Four of those cables on the multiplexer need to go into the decoder.
By lnb angle I mean the angle the coax cables point out from the lnb on the dish. Adjusting the rotation of the lnb adjusts the polarization of the signal.
Get that right and all should work fine. Try rotating the lnb bit by bit on the dish and watch the signal on the status under the decoder settings. This method worked perfectly for me. I refused to pay 2000 for someone to install something I can do on my own. Sent from my HTC Desire using MyBroadband Android App. Sorry for the late reply.

I have found with the LNB angle that the markings on the LNB, the last marking on the right of the LNB should be at the top center of the mounting ring of the control arm.
If the ring has markings it must line up with '0', if you move it 3 notches to the left of '0' studio universal sig quality drops to 90, mnet sig quality stays at 100%, if moved 3 notches to the right of the '0' (center) of the ring mnet sig quality drops to 90% and studio universal stays at 100%. Have tested this setup across all channels and they stay at 100%. If you really want to fine tune play around with the distance between the LNB and dish, it is recomended that the measurement from the end of the ring to the beginning of the front part of the LNB ( side facing the dish) is 5mm. Play around with this, I have managed to get 100% sig strength by doing this, but the dish must be perfectly aligned.
