Are they worth watching? Three great movies. Redline is the most immediately entertaining. The other two are more thoughtful so require more effort.
Worth it though. Sub Or Dub The Akira dub isn't much cop. Watch the sub instead.
Nuba Super System Flawless skin SIMPLIFIED. This 3 step Super System dramatically reduces fine lines and wrinkles, instantly lifting and firming sagging skin around eyes. The mother of Calarei, Nuba was a peaceful person who believed that with pokemon, mankind reached new heights than it ever had this view led her to issues later on with her relationship. Everyone is Raving About It!!!
The other two - the dubs aren't bad. Any explicit sex scenes? Akira has an ugly attempted rape. Ghost in The Shell has a heroine who goes into action butt naked.
Redline has bare boobs at one point. Any extreme violence? Depends on your definition of extreme violence. Akira and GITS have some pretty bloody moments. Redline has a fair bit of mayhem but it's mostly flying vehicles and missiles and besides, the whole thing is so OTT you can't take it seriously. Hope that helps.
Any explicit sex scenes? (i would like to watch it the living room, so i want to avoid awkward family moments.) All three have nudity but no sex scenes.
Any extreme violence? (I am usually fine with normal levels of violence, but if it gets too much I don't really like it.) Akira has some amount of gore.
Including intestines falling out of open wounds. The other two will not require the assistance of qualified first aid attendants. They might require a mechanic or two, however. Sub or dub for each of them? Having been forced by various parties in the past to watch all of them at some point dubbed and subbed, I'll tentatively say they're all fine in both formats with a preference on: Dub for Redline, 2001 version Dub for Akira, and Subs for Ghost in the Shell.
Redline put some serious love and effort into their universe building soundtrack and animation/art. All of which shame other studios. However, if you're looking for thought provoking themes, this isn't it.

Akira's quality animation has fared well, and it's plot is centered around a theme. This might be hard to notice however in the mayhem of the show. Ghost in the Shell has alot of scenes that - although might have been timely in the past - come off as excessively slow. The setting, thought provoking issues and themes, however, feel superior and more compelling compared to the other two. There's my 6 cents, if someone doesn't agree, feel free to start a heated debate. I enjoy it when things get heated • • • •.
Ghost in the Shell is an amazing film, visually and thematically, but like a fellow poster said, there is a lot of nudity. None of it in a sexual context, mind you, and it's more clinical than titillating, but still something to keep in mind when your mom walks in and sees a naked lady messily shoot some guy's head off, jump off of a building, and go invisible in the first five minutes after credits. There is a substantial amount of violence (against humans and cyborgs both), but it's presented fairly realistically, and not in an especially overblown or exaggerated manner. Except for the exploding head, of course; it's not a Ghost in the Shell production without at least one (lovingly animated) exploding head. I watched it dubbed, and thought it was quite well-done in that regard.
Oh, also, if you can choose between the original GITS cut and the 2.0 cut, go with the original. GITS 2.0 (not to be confused with the sequel, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence) just replaces some of the hand-drawn animation with CG, and it just doesn't look all that good. Akira has a lot of violence and body-horror, and a fair amount of nudity. It's been a while since I've seen it, but the 2001 dub is generally considered to be better than the 1988 one if you're going that way. While I agree with your assessment that a 13 year old should be able to handle Redline and GiTS nudity pretty much automatically gets something an 'R' rating. Also the english dub of Redline says 'fuck' a couple of times with also usually warrants an 'R' rating (can only say it once in PG-13.) Ghost in the Shell is actually rated 'R' while redline doesn't have an offical MPAA rating afaik but it does had a '14A' rating in Canada which I think is somewhere between a 'PG-13' and an 'R' in the US.
